Wädenswil Cricket Club: A journey of friendship and triumph
In the picturesque town of Wädenswil in Switzerland, a remarkable cricket club has grown from humble beginnings to epitomise the essence of friendship, passion and sportsmanship. Founded by two close friends, Justin and Aravindhan, who initially only played cricket as an evening hobby: The club's journey began with a small spark.
The turning point came when Justin and Aravindhan met two brothers, Banujan and Sarujan. Together, they decided to turn their hobby into a proper cricket team. Initially struggling to put together a full team, they invited Tibetan friends and made connections beyond the sport.
As the club grew, Banujan's networking efforts attracted more players, including the talented fast bowler Krishnakanth. In 2017, Cricket Club Wädenswil took part in a major tournament with eight teams. Led by Banujan, they won the winner's trophy and made founder Justin very proud.
The team continued to grow, attracting energetic players such as Kavitharan and his young colleague Kanagan, who became the youngest member at just 15 years old. Each player contributed significantly to the team's development and success, dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to every game.
Weekends were reserved for cricket, training and bonding. Beyond the sport, the club became a close-knit family. After matches, they relaxed by swimming in the beautiful Lake Wädenswil, having barbecues or playing volleyball by the lake and savouring every moment.
Their home pitch overlooking a charming church became a special place for the team. The tranquil beauty of the place added to the unique charm of Cricket Club Wädenswil.
In 2021, the club turned over a new leaf when it ventured into professional cricket under the leadership of Kavitharan and Kanagan. Their efforts introduced Keeran and Gushalavan and cemented the cohesion among the members. This co-operation led to the birth of a professional cricket club known as ECC (Eagels Cricket Club).
Today, all ECC members look back with gratitude to Wädenswil Cricket Club, where their cricket journey began. The club remains close to their hearts, a testament to the enduring bonds formed through a love of the game. At Wädenswil, cricket became more than just a sport; it became a symbol of camaraderie and a source of treasured memories.
